LEARN HIS STORY OF DEDICATION
MEET THE CO-FOUNDER & TREASURER
A marker of this characteristic is most transparent in his brotherhood with Co-founder and Director Jonathan Alvarez. Their friendship of 27 years dates back to 1993. Crossing paths in kindergarden, John and Jonathan remained friends throughout their adolescent years, nearly inseparable until Jonathan jumped full-fledge into the streets and went away for a long-term prison sentence. John, nevertheless, stood by his side and extended support throughout his incarceration; their friendship evolved into a solid brotherhood.
THE WORK BEFORE THE MOVEMENT
John always enjoyed giving back to the community. One of his most memorable moments were returning back to his high school on Career Day. Sharing his journey and career path, he loves the idea of inspiring youth to be future leaders and game changers. He attended Career Day and other speaking engagements for the youth, finding his true passion in uplifting the future generation.
HIS PROFESSIONAL CAREER
John’s passion outside of youth mentorship lies in various trades such as mechanical, electrical, manufacturing and carpentry. At age twelve, he landed his first job in a local auto mechanic shop, where he learned to service and repair automobiles. Later he moved into the manufacturing industry building and assembling rolling stock commuter and subway trains. Today, John holds a position as Enterprise Asset Management specialist for Metropolitan Transit Authority, developing and implementing better reliability and maintenance practices for all of the organizations assets.
SETTING THE EXAMPLE
In addition to his professional career, John manages his role as a husband of seven years, a father to three beautiful girls, and Co-Founder & Treasurer of 914UNITED Inc. Inspired by Jonathan to launch the youth mentorship mission, he supported the vision every step of the way. He joined the Yonkers MBK initiative to support high school seniors throughout their passage to adulthood. In his view, Jonathan is the visionary, and he’s the executer. They both work great together as a team—equally spearheading the mission to educate youth and extend support to those in need.
